About the Exhibit

There is a calling that comes from within. It may be a whisper for some or a shout for others. This calling asks us to live an authentic life. A Life filled with purpose, love, joy and prosperity. Our hope is to depict subjects in the act of listening to this calling

Robert Lange Studios upcoming exhibit, The Calling, features a series of new paintings from Michelle Jader and Robert Lange.  This series draws from the similarities that exist in the action based paintings of both artists.  The work will hang until October 30 and can be seen daily from 11-5 pm.  Both painters have been recognized separately for their painting abilities and featured in art magazines as well as private and public collections.  Each artist has created numerous works over the years that consist of figures leaping, floating, and diving their way towards a positive direction.

Jader uses visceral rhythmic brushstrokes in oil to convey a sense of motion in her figures. She paints the figure multiple times on multiple acrylic panels to create a sense of movement and depth. Lange uses a high key palette and detailed rendering to achieve a sense of reality existing within his surreal works. All are welcome to attend the October 6 event from 5–8PM where the artists will be on hand to answer questions.

Jader says of the paintings, “There is a calling that comes from within. It may be a whisper for some or a shout for others. This calling asks us to live an authentic life. A Life filled with purpose, love, joy and prosperity. My hope is to depict subjects in the act of listening to this calling."

Robert Lange Studios has represented both artists for many years now and has seen a similarity in the viewers who respond to each artist. Curry Ernst the gallery’s director says, “Both Robert and Michelle tend to connect deeply with optimists. Their work is an emblem for the glass is half full type of person.” Similarly, their personalities reflect the work that they create. Both artists tend to see the existential journey through rose colored glasses.

For example in the piece “Leap of Faith” we find one of Lange's figures in the cannonball position, eyes closed, flying through the sky. There are only clouds behind him to set the environment, creating a sense of floating. On the shoulder of the figure is a small tattoo with a heart and the word Mom. The painting conveys a belief system that allows for the figure to be unafraid of his situation knowing there are higher forces at work.

In another piece for the show also titled “Leap of Faith” we find one of Michelle Jaders' figures leaping proud-chested through an empty space. She is bold and confident in a dynamic blue dress eagerly facing what is to come. The use of multiple translucent panels creates a sense of propulsion through the air.

Lange says, “In representing Michelle for the past 5 years as a gallery owner I have always been impressed by her ability to affect the people who come into the gallery. They are inspired by her figures. I wanted to draw from that effect and create paintings with subjects who were following their own compass. I believe it is infectious when we see someone pursuing their dreams."

There will be an installation wall in the gallery with the words “What’s Calling You” in vinyl. Guest will be encouraged to write anything they wish on the wall creating a communal inspiration wall. Their is a hope between the artists that a room filled with motivating works will inspire the daily viewer to go out into the world and listen to their own individual calling.

Ella Yozzo, a South Carolina collector’s comment in anticipation for the upcoming show is, “If there’s one thing I count on when visiting RLS gallery, it’s seeing the paintings by Robert and Michelle and knowing my day will be better for it.”
