40 painters look to the moon for inspiration

Opening Reception: June 3, 5-8pm

Robert Lange Studios’ upcoming exhibit, “Many Moons,” features the work of 40 renown painters focusing on painting the moon.  The moon has been depicted in paintings for centuries with its mystic powers and glowing mysteries, this show, opening June 3 from 5-8pm, will have a number of contemporary interpretations as well as traditional.

Robert Lange says, ““Many Moons” was originally intending for just our landscape painters but a few other artists, including myself, had ideas for the show as well.” Lange says that the show has now grown to include 40 painters, only half that are traditional landscape painters. “There are still lives, figurative pieces, and a number of interpretations of the theme that make me love our artist’s and their creativity even more,” said Lange.

Lange created a large scale piece of his daughter, title “Moon Lighting,” which is an 18 by 24-inch oil on panel painting, in it she appears to be painting the moon. He says, “I wanted to paint a concept not just a scene. I love that the moon historically in art has represented a reflection of the vastness of existence. The idea that a little girl can create their own path through this vastness appealed to me. the title “Moon Lighting” plays on the idea that this is her second job in life.”

In another work for the show, artist Jessica Gordon went in a more figurative direction and painted a swimmer who’s backside is “flashing the audience.” The painting, titled “Moonlit,” captures a memory of night swimming and the water has a familiar glow of moon light.

There will be plenty of traditional moon paintings to enjoy as well and all are welcome at the June 3 opening, which is free and open to the public.

Artists participating include: Adam Hall, Annie Wildey, Barbara Kacicek, Brett Scheifflee, Brian Sostrom, Christopher Burk, Diane Davich-Craig, Erik Johnson, Erin Milan, Jessica Gordon, Katie Koenig, KC Collins, Kerry Simmons, Kirsten Hoving, Lucas Kratochwil, Matt Cornell, Megan Aline, Megan Elizabeth Reed (Mae), Mickey Williams, Natalie Featherston, Nathan Durfee, Nicola Johnson, Robert Lange, Rosso Emerald Crimson, Sara Scribner, Shane Scribner, Ted Walsh, Timur Akhriev, Tony Chimento, Parrick Nevins, Robert Stark and a few more if they finish in time 🙂
